ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

International Dance Theatres Festival OPEN STAGE
Mościce Art Centre

20-28 October 2018

8th International Dance Theatres Festival OPEN STAGE is a celebration of Polish and international art of modern dance. It brings together both experienced and debuting artists and outstanding, innovative groups. It popularises the achievements of dance theatre and brings attention to the extraordinary world of the art of dance. It is also a space for exchanging experiences and participating in therapeutic dance, competitions and masterclasses.

The main idea of this year’s OPEN STAGE is a reflection on the transgressions between tradition and modernity. The lineup includes Richard Alston Dance Company from Great Britain, Szeged Contemporary Dance Company from Hungary, Polish Dance Theatre from Poznań, Kielce Dance Theatre, and V6 Dance Theatre from Łódź, as well as young independent dancers. The artists will lead a dialogue with the audiences about the changing limits of interpretations of tradition and search for modernity, both in the individual and social dimension.

The festival will ask, through a series of events, in what way inspirations from the canon are confronted in various dimensions with the realities of contemporary world and the sensitivity of the artists and their audiences. It is for those audiences that the programme is created, and it will interest children and adults alike, both experienced viewers as well as those who have not come into contact with the art of dance before. Thanks to the OPEN STAGE, more and more people are realising for the first time that modern dance can be a source of many positive experiences.

Jacek Przybyłowicz is the ambassador of the International Dance Theatres Festival OPEN STAGE.
